| Harper's Bazaar Art Basel Miami Beach Kick-off Brunch, 2013
Art Basel Miami Beach was founded in 2002 by Samuel Keller as the sister expo to Art Basel in Switzerland.
Keller saw an opportunity to bring together the global art community in sunny
South Florida during a time when wealthy art collectors in Europe and New York are
looking to retreat from the cold. Art Basel is unique in that it brings
together the worlds of fashion, music, celebrity, and art to create an
environment of luxury where elite art collectors from around the world will
look to purchase one of a kind contemporary and historic artworks.
In 2002, Art Basel started
at the Miami Beach Convention center with 160 galleries showing their works of
art in the form of installations, sculptures, paintings, photographs, and films. In 2005
Craig Robbins founded Design Miami, originally Design.05, as a way to celebrate
prominent designers in the architectural and design industries. This venue in
tandem with Art Basel ensured a well-rounded experience of art and design for
the visiting collectors and general public alike.
In its 13th year,
Art Basel Miami Beach will host nearly 300 galleries and over 70,000
international visitors. Design Miami will be celebrating its 10th
anniversary this year and will celebrate by honoring Peter Marino with the
Designer Visionary Award, a new award to celebrate individuals who have
significantly contributed to the field of design. Peter Marino is the genius
behind the design of many retail stores around the world including the Louis
Vuitton and Fendi flagships on Fifth Avenue in New York City. Design Miami will
also introduce Design Curio, an exhibition platform for artists to use various
art mediums to showcase the state of art and design today and provide a background
for the many artists that will be showcasing their works at the fair.

December 3-7, 2014 is a premier weeklong exhibition in South Florida with a
host of art fairs, musical performances, parties, and various industry events
